3d Marker

This was a piece for the 3d brief on the ND Multiemdia course second year. The task was simply to find an object (anything you liked) and model it in a 3d package called Cinema3d. This was my first ever attempt and 3d and as happens with some briefs I got quite into it and ended up spending alot of time on it.

The object I chose was an Inferno Paintball marker (as I wanted something which was going at least be a challenge) and the first task was to draw and photograph the object from different angles for reference. we could then go straight into Cinema4d and start modeling. as with most 3d programs the first sight is somewhat daunting with 4 seperate screens and tools scattered all over its ahrd to know where to start but I was able to find my way around the primatives and make a start from there creating the barrel of the gun from a simple cylinder by dragging in the central part of the cylinder. Alot of the other parts were made in similar fashion, either editing primatives or extruding shapes, shuch as the handle and trigger/guard where objects which could be drawn out flat and simply extruded. the only other tool I used was the bool tool to bool out parts which were hollow or indented.

The texture for the marker is quite simple a shiney plastic looking black. (which is pretty much how the marker looked) A few sections such as the grip on the handle and the pipe were bump mapped using various texture. For the pipe I used a texture of wooden flooring and for the grip I created a simple diamond shaped texture with a matte grey colour.

the model itself is quite simple and alot of sections could have been made with different better methods but it was after all a first attempt at 3d and I am quite pleased with the result.
